This is a great opportunity to learn about the statistics produced by the ONS, and help communicate them effectively to users.
Note: Applications will close on 22nd October 2017.
How will it benefit you?
The work produced has real outcomes and involves some of the most high profile statistics. Previous UWG students have published pieces of analysis, developed new statistical indices, and designed new ways of communicating national statistics.
The work would suit those considering a career within the Government Economic Service or Government Statistical Service, since it provides relevant experience to support future applications for industrial placements and graduate positions.
At the end of the process, students are invited to a series of presentations and mock recruitment exercises designed to prepare them for the Civil Service graduate recruitment process. Many prior members of the UWG now work in Government statistics, including the Civil Service Fast Stream.
What will you be doing?
Successful applicants work in teams to produce a piece of work over a period of approximately four months. Each team is assigned a mentor who will provide them with support and guidance throughout the process.
When and where does it happen?
There will be a series of three meetings at the ONS Newport office, coupled with visits from mentors to university campuses to help keep the projects on track.
Applications will close on 22nd October 2017.
