The Army recruits approximatey 900 people every year. More than 80% of officer cadets are University graduates and education and training play a key part in an Army career.  The main underlying trait required in officers is, of course, leadership.  There are opportunities in a wide variety of trades – e.g. infantry officer training, medical corps, signals technician, human resources, administration.  Before joining, you can gain experience through the Territorial Army, and also the Officer Training Corps.

Royal Navy opportunities include:

  • All disciplines of engineering such as aircraft, marine, mechanical, electrical and weapons systems.
  • Training as warfare officers who can progress to become captains of warships later in their careers.
  • Opportunities for Air Crew in the Fleet Air Arm to join as pilots or observers in helicopters or fixed-wing jets.
